 Sefton Park palm house

On this trip to the palm house we focused a lot on the surroundings ( architecture, flowers , plants and general surroundings which linked very well with the theme we are currently doing which is still life and organic forms. We had a few minutes of looking around and taking pictures of this beautifully detailed Victorian piece of architecture, with its arched windows and white frames. The age , elegance and simplicity of it made it more enjoyable when it came to the tasks.

Once in the palm house we again where given a chance to explore and appreciate the architecture and plants housed there. As i came into the building itself i felt, it defiantly more than lived up to my expectations; the brightness of the flowers against the windows and the white frames, contrasting with the lushes green foliage .with over 20 different variety of palms made it feel like being on a tropical island. After the chance of taking pictures and looking around we then started on the tasks.
we where given 7 tasks all using a variety of media and techniques .The first task was to walk around and find something detailed and draw as much as possible in those 5 minutes .I was drawn to this particular statue, not knowing how difficult it would be.I only managed to get the outlining as it was difficult to capture detail when drawing a continues lined drawing. what made it even more challenging was that once making a mistake it was hard to cover up and impossible to remove .If i chose this statue earlier when using pencil i would of found less challenging and possibly more enjoyable rather than using a fine liner.

Apart from sketching only one object ,plant or piece of architecture we also composed a piece by picking three things that we liked from the palm house, whether that was a plant , statue or any other object/architecture that attracted the eye.In this case i chose  the same statue from before , 3 flowers and a rose. Using a mixture of media (fine liner, charcoal and a pencil) .
we where also given a chance to focus on one particular part of the architecture from the palm house. using a thin fine liner i drew a section . If i had a longer amount of time then I'm positive i would have more detail and structure, but that is something I'm currently focusing on and plan on improving.

Creating line drwaings .

Hi welcome to my new Fine Art blog.
I will be uploading and discussing my work for all of my projects.

Creative line drawing

Still life and organic forms

For the first few lessons we focused on still life and organic forms which we later used as our theme throughout the project. during these lessons we stood around a table which had an display of objects which we then had to draw .

Each object we drew on the piece of paper we then stuck each of them together from different angles which gave a strange , almost abstract outcome .

I found this very enjoyable and interesting how odd it became the more and more i added a new drawing . However i found it challenging to draw with charcoal as there is not enough control and i found it hard to create detail / shading without using too much . Another thing with charcoal is that it smudges which becomes at times frustrating as its harder to remove compared to a pencil.
I do not think i will be using charcoal any time soon , i lean more towards watercolours and pen in wash .I prefer things that look neat , clear and simple . However i'm glad that i tried even though i found it a challenge .
